Stephen Ministry provides care by bringing God’s love to hurting people. It does not replace pastoral care, but extends it by providing the presence of a Christian friend who is a lay person in the congregation. Christ commands us to “love one another,” which is what Stephen Ministers do without judging or criticizing.
Stephen Ministers go through 50 hours of training led and supervised by trained lay volunteer leaders and pastors. They are willing to talk about spiritual issues but won’t force them. Stephen Ministers care by listening, supporting, encouraging, praying, being dependable and trustworthy, and maintaining confidentiality.
If you would like to discuss the possibility of meeting with a Stephen Minister or training to become one, please call the church office (704) 372-7317 and speak with either the Pastor or the Administrative Assistant. We meet the needs of our congregation first, but can also offer care to their family members and friends if requested.
