Rally Day 2014 — Not to Be Served, but to Serve

Rally Day 2014

Not to Be Served, but to Serve

Summer is almost over. The rituals and commitments of Fall–school, committee meetings, and so forth–are looming over our heads as August ends, almost as quickly as it began. “Life is a buffet; you have to make choices,” my parents would say, to remind me that committing to too many activities can be overwhelming; in the end, they were definitely right. Getting involved in activities that we enjoy can be fun, but wouldn’t it be great if more of the activities we committed ourselves to in the coming months weren’t actually about ourselves at all?

Serving others in our communities is something that Rally Day 2014 is focusing on. In the Gospel of Mark, Jesus said, “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Following His example, we as members of the body of Christ ought to seek opportunities to serve others within our family, neighborhood, and world.

Trix are for Kids, but Rally Day is for Everyone

Rally Day isn’t just for kids. While children will be invited to sign up for Sunday School, we’re making Rally Day about getting everyone involved–including you! There are so many varied ministries within our church that you can get involved in that perhaps you aren’t aware of already. That’s why Rally Day is so important for everyone. Maybe it’s even a good reason to invite a friend, coworker, or neighbor to church!

Let Us Know about Your Ministry

The Board of Family Ministry wants to know about all of the ministry opportunities that are connected with Ascension–both on and off campus–so that it can be included in Rally Day. Additionally, we want to spread the word about Rally Day so that as many people who call Ascension their church can participate in the mission of the church, through Christian service and love.

Your Presence is Wanted

Rally Day 2014 will be on Sunday, September 7, between the two services (9:45-10:45) on the front lawn of the church campus. If it rains, we will meet in Luther Hall.

It is my hope that Rally Day will be an event that doesn’t just kick off the school year, but kicks us out of our habit of searching for opportunities to serve only ourselves instead of others. I hope you will be able to join us!
