Sundays at 8:30am & 11:00am
The Music Department at Ascension Lutheran Church seeks to praise and glorify God by utilizing music in rehearsed ensembles and the gathered assembly. Spirituals, psalms, hymns, canticles, and liturgies are used to remind us that God’s Word is the nucleus of our worship.
At Ascension, getting involved with music is a rewarding experience, regardless of one’s experience level. Our ensembles are comprised of people who dedicate themselves through regular rehearsal and offering of music in worship. Anyone is welcome to join any of our ensembles without an audition. If you are interested in becoming part of the musical life of Ascension, please contact the Minister of Music.
Celebrate the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation by joining us for a Bach Choral Cantata on Sunday, October 29 at 4:00 PM. Our Worship Musicians ensemble provides worship leadership using a vast array of worship music styles, from traditional global music, to folk music, to music from the Taizé community. The Worship Musicians ensemble consists of both instrumentalists and vocalists. The ensemble leads worship once a month, and they rehearse the Saturday morning before the Sunday on which they lead worship.
Sunday School Opening
Children at Ascension have the privilege of participating in a 10-15 minute time every Sunday morning to learn music and warm up for Sunday School. During Sunday School opening, in addition to playing instruments, the children learn the fundamentals of music, teamwork and cooperation skills, and group singing. Music learned during this opening time is occasionally sung or played during worship.
Sunday School Opening is held every Sunday during the school year from 9:45 a.m. – 10:05 a.m. in the Sanctuary. All children–both members or visitors–are invited to participate.
God has blessed all of us in many and varied ways, and one of the ways we can return these gifts to God is through the offering of special music. If you are an instrumentalist or vocalist and would like to provide music during Sunday worship, such as a solo or a duet, please contact the Minister of Music. The Minister of Music will work with you to select music that harmonizes with the Church year, Festival Sunday, or other occasion.
